U18s set for Rhinos kick off

Newcastle Thunder will kick off a new look U18s academy competition at the end of February next year, with Leeds Rhinos the visitors to Kingston Park Stadium.

Evolving from an U19s competition to and U18s for the forthcoming season, the changes are set to give the Academy Super League competition a new dynamic for the forthcoming season, as Thunder’s youngster continue to test themselves against players from the top sides in the game.

It is a competition in which Thunder have become more and more competitive in during recent seasons and one where they will be looking to maintain that upward progression.

After kicking off against the Rhinos on Saturday 29th, the visit of Hull KR forms part of a Thunder triple header on Sunday 7th March, with the reserves hosting the same opponent and the first team clashing with West Cumbrian rivals Workington Town.

Once again in 2020, the club are targeting playing as many home fixtures as possible alongside first team fixtures, with the first team fixtures against Keighley, Rochdale, Hunslet, Crusaders and Barrow all benefiting from an Under 18s curtain raiser.
