Coach Development Programme a huge success

Sunday 8th April saw the final installment of the 2018 Coach Development Programme with Dave Elliott from England Rugby League visiting the North East to deliver to the coaches in attendance.

The workshop focussed on Principles of Offence and gave some insight into the day to day experiences that come up when working with the elite national squads of all ages from England Youth up to England Knights and England.  This was the final workshop in a series of three workshops which have covered a broad range of topics including Talent Identification, Mental Skills, Tactical & Technical as well as Philosophy and Planning.

Coaches have traveled from as far afield as West Cumbria and North Yorkshire with the following clubs represented: Cockermouth Titans and Catterick Crusaders as well as more local clubs Gateshead Storm, Yarm Wolves, Cramlington Rockets, Whitley Bay Barbarians and Peterlee Pumas.

Adam Houston, Thunder’s Community Development & Community Programmes Officer said “We’ve had a really good response from the coaches who have shown a strong passion and desire to learn more about what we do as a club, particularly within the academy so they can go back and put it into practice in their clubs”.

“Having Dave come up today has been a real bonus and adds a lot of value to what we’re doing and the things that he shared with the coaches that he’s seen throughout the game across all levels just reaffirm that what we’re doing as a region is the right way of doing things”.
