Special delivery for 2020

Kieran Gill will be a Newcastle Thunder player in 2020, with the highly-rated centre putting pen to paper on a full contract with the club for next season.

Gill, who has been at Kingston Park Stadium on a season-long loan from Castleford Tigers in 2019, has shone in Thunder colours as he has regained the free-scoring form that marked him out as one of the most exciting young talents in the British game.

Currently the club’s leading try-scorer with 20 to his name, Gill has been a mainstay in the Thunder team throughout the year, having made 17 appearances to date and performing strongly within the centres.

On top of his own impressive personal performances for the team this season, Gill has also been developing as an on-field leader; with the 23-year-old often one of the older heads on Thunder’s right edge.

Gill is the second signing to be announced by Thunder for the 2020 season, joining Quentin Laulu- Togaga’e in signing up for the new year.

Kieran Gill said: “I’m extremely excited to get the deal over the line, after a good loan period this year it was hard to not stay really.

I’ve loved the last four years at Castleford and am thankful for the experience I’ve gained as a player and a person. Unfortunately injuries didn’t go my way but with Thunder I’ve found a great club with great ambitions and I’m sure it will continue to grow.

The coaching staff and lads have all been great and we’re still pushing towards that promotion and it’s great to be a part of and hopefully be able to be in the championship!”

Simon Finnigan said “I’m very pleased to bring Gilly in as a Thunder player. He is very good on the field for us and has been very consistent all year.

“The calibre of the player he is and the systems he has come through, we wanted to keep him. Off the field, he is excellent and is good around the group so he is an important signing for the club.

“He is happy where he is and it is a good fit for both.”
