Newcastle Thunder are aiming to make Sunday’s Betfred League 1 playoff clash an #EcoFriendlyFinal by committing to support the work of the National Trust Foundation.

With the game streaming live via the RFL’s OuRLeague platform, Thunder will plant one new tree for every 10 new fans gained in the build up to Sunday’s game .

One of the biggest games in the club’s history, big numbers of supporters are expected to travel to the Vestacare Stadium and tune in from afar.

Having made sustainability a watch word in their growth since 2015, the support of environmental projects will allow the impact of Sunday’s match to be positive on and off the field.

Thunder general manager Jordan Robinson said: “With big numbers travelling, we want to make sure that Thunder’s impact on Sunday is on the field and supporting environmental projects will help us to do that.

“We have always said our growth as a club had to be sustainable and that extends to our environment.

“We are hoping we see a big increase in the number of Thunder fans on the OuRLeague platform and that we will be planting many trees with the National Trust Foundation.”
