SIGNING – Hudson homes in on senior contract. On Field October 25, 2018 Outside back Kieran Hudson is the third Thunder Under 19 to graduate to the First Team squad for 2019 as his meteoric rise through the game’s ranks continues to gather pace. Making his first team debut in July against Hemel Stags, the youngster impressed with his performance and having shone throughout the year with the club’s academy side, will now be a full fixture in the senior squad. A former academy goalkeeper at Sunderland AFC, Hudson was released by the football club at 15 and has since been making waves in rugby league since first coming into contact with the sport as a pupil at Whitburn Church of England Academy. Coached by Newcastle Thunder players Joe Brown and Rhys Clarke and inspired by those sessions, Hudson went on to play for local amateur side Jarrow Vikings before enrolling on to Thunder’s college programme which the club runs in conjunction with Tyne Met College It was here that he caught the eye of Thunder’s management and ultimately drafted into the full Under 19 academy. Hudson is the third Thunder Under 19 to graduate to the First Team squad for 2019 as his meteoric rise through the game’s ranks continues to gather pace. Speaking about his graduation, Hudson said: “It’s going to be a big season for Thunder in 2019 and I am really happy that I am going to have a chance to be part of it. “I want to take the chance to show what I have got and showing everyone what I am about. It was great to make my first start against Hemel last year and I’ll hopefully be able to add to my appearances next year. Academy Manager Michael Heap said “Kieran is a fantastic prospect. At 18 years old, he has another year left where he can play for the academy but his performances this year have shown that he is more than capable of playing for the first team in League 1. “He is a big powerful athlete who is becoming notorious for his uncompromising yardage carries, as well as possessing incredibly good hands and the ability to acrobatically finish tries in the corner. “Kieran has worked incredibly hard this last year and I’m sure that with his attitude, the support network he has in his family as well as the staff here at Thunder he will continue to progress.” Hudson joins Mo Agoro, Jack Aldous, Jared Blanke, Keal Carlile, Jed Charlton, Rhys Clarke, Dan Coates, Liam Finn, Conor Fitzsimmons, Sam Luckley, Remy Marginet, Liam McAvoy, Aaron Ollett, Alex Rowe, Niall Sidney, Evan Simons, David Weetman and Lewis Young in Thunder’s 2019 squad.
