SIGNING – Weetman returns to Kingston Park

Academy graduate David Weetman will return to the Thunder fold for the 2020 season after agreeing on a new deal at Kingston Park Stadium.

Weetman first stepped up to the Thunder first team from the junior ranks for the 2018 season as a loose forward and has made six appearances for club to date.

He gained further experience by spending the second part of the 2019 season on loan at Keighley Cougars and returns to the North East looking to fight his way into the selection thoughts of Denis Betts and Simon Finnigan.

He is a adept across the pack however and can cover a number of positions as required within the forward ranks.

A strong player who runs good lines, Weetman’s early rugby saw him play at hooker and in the halves, with a well-developed skill set the result.

Offering plenty off the ball, with quick defensive retreats, excellent push supports and kick chase, Weetman is a product of the junior set up at his home town club Cramlington Rockets..

Speaking on his return to the Thunder dressing room, Weetman said: “I’m thrilled to be back after being out at Keighley last season. It was a good experience for me, it allowed me to test myself out of my comfort zone and was a good way to get some valuable game time, I’m confident that the experience will help me in my career and for this season at Thunder”

“I want to keep developing as a player and add to my existing appearances for the club by cementing a spot within the match day 17, I know that will be difficult with the quality players we have signed and retained, but i will work hard and push my self to be in the best position possible to do so come the start of the season”

Weetman joins Bob Beswick, Rhys Clarke, Alex Clegg, Sean Croston, Ashley Gibson, Kieran Gill, Ollie Gowing, Kieran Hudson, Adam Lawton, Sam Luckley, Rory Nettleton, Quentin Laulu Togaga’e, Colton Roche, Evan Simons, Brad Walker, Tyler Walton, Mikey Wood and Lewis Young in the ranks for 2020.
