Jack Johnson retained for Thunder’s 2023 season

Jack Johnson will remain a Thunder player for the upcoming Betfred Championship season.
Johnson is another name confirmed as Chris Thorman looks to build and prepare his squad for pre-season.
The high-flying winger signed for Thunder in 2021 from fellow Betfred Championship outfit Widnes Vikings. In his first two seasons at the club, Johnson has featured 33 times and returned an incredible 22 tries.
Last year Johnson was in prolific try-scoring form, with 10 tries from 15 starts and on a run of five tries from his last four games. His season unfortunately came to a premature end, when the 26-year-old suffered an accident in training following a collision with a teammate.
We’ll leave the full details of the incident HERE but please proceed with caution, it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Speaking on his decision to stay in the North East, Johnson said: “I’m looking forward to seeing the lads again and being back around them. But most importantly I’m ready to get back playing some of my best rugby after a bit of time off.
“I'm eager to get started and look forward to making the fans, my friends and most importantly my family proud.”
Johnson is the second player from the 2022 squad to commit to Thunder for the new year after it was recently announced that Craig Mullen will also be staying in the North East.
Chair of Newcastle Thunder, Keith Christie had previously commented on the retention of players and said: “We’re delighted to have been able to retain some of the great talent from last year.
“This is a really great opportunity for us to reset, rebuild and ensure we build solid foundations for Thunder moving forward.
“I’m personally very pleased that some of the lads from last year will be around to be part of that and as a club we want to thank them for their ongoing commitment to Newcastle Thunder.”
