Newcastle Thunder Women beaten but not defeated

Newcastle Thunder Women's side fell to a 38-16 defeat at the hands of Workington Town Ladies at the newly named Fibrus Broadband Community Stadium on Sunday.

Our Women's team may have came off second best against Working Town Ladies on this occasion but didn't go down without a fight.

It was a game of two halves which saw them dominate the second period with a very encouraging performance from the squad.

It was the first competitive fixture for the side as they also become the first to enter the Women’s Super League (WSL) North Competition, alongside their opponents Workington.

WSL North has had a ‘soft launch’ this summer, with the series of matches between Newcastle and Workington Town RLFC and have an aim to introduce a Scottish team in 2024.

The two sides battle it out once more at the home of rugby league in the North East. Come along to Kingston Park Stadium to see the return leg on Sunday, July 30 prior to Newcastle Thunder v Swinton Lions.

The fixture will kick-off at 12.30pm and community club ticket prices apply. Contact community@newcastle-thunder.co.uk fro more details.
