Thunder squad named for Panthers trip

Newcastle Thunder head coach Chris Thorman has today named his 21-man squad to travel to Halifax Panthers in Round 19 of the Betfred Championship.

The fixture is set for a 3pm kick-off on Sunday, July 16.

The side sees a number of changes to the one that was victorious against Whitehaven RLFC last time out.

Nikau Williams returns from an injury he picked up against London Broncos and dual reg signing Nick Staveley is back amongst the first team fold after being made available by his parent club Hull FC.

The squad also sees the potential return of Evan Lawther, who has been sidelined with an injury picked up in a Reserves fixture earlier this year. The powerful centre has scored two tries in three appearances for Thunder so far this season.

Jake Lightowler and Mac Walsh are out of contention this week and there’s space for new signing Paddy Burns. The 25-year-old forward has linked up with Thunder for the rest of the 2023 campaign.
