Finnigan lauds exciting Town tussle

Simon Finnigan hailed the show put on by Newcastle Thunder and Workington Town on Sunday afternoon in an exciting game of Betfred League 1 rugby league.

Decided by just eight points with attacking flair and committed defence on show in spades, Thunder’s head coach enjoyed what he saw.

“It was a really good game of rugby that was played hard and in the right way, I thought both teams tried to attack, defended well and there were some fantastic individual plays with and without the ball from both sets of teams.”

One of the key moments in a game that had plenty of drama came in the final 10 minutes with a try-saving tackle from fullback Lewis Young.

Usually in the headlines for his attack, it was an effort that Finnigan says the 24-year-old has been showing more and more.

“Lewis gets a lot of compliments for his attacking play but particularly this year, he’s been outstanding defensively.

“As a fullback, you have to play both sides of the ball and this season he has come up. At Keighley he must have made two or three try-saving tackles that go a little bit un-noticed because they were on the goal line but that today was a brilliant tackle.”
