Mantelli pleased by pre season progress

Mick Mantelli believes a pre-season hit out against St Helens Select served up a fixture that delivered the required level of intensity as preparations continue for the new Kingston Press League 1 season.

Thunder’s head coach has just four weeks to wait until the first match of the new league season, away to Workington Town on March 5th and says the 12-16 loss to the Saints Select side provided a step up from the previous week against Whitehaven.

Speaking to Thunder TV, Mantelli said: “It was an exciting game, both teams got the physicality they wanted out of it, I think we could have had a bit more play out of us and some of our structures were a bit off, but in all it was a step up from last week’s trial.

“They are a bit of a necessary evil these trials and you have to take what you can out of them.  The only thing you can gauge is your fitness levels on the training field, you don’t know where you are, it’s when you’re in a game your structures and cohesions get tested. “
